Our March meetup will take place at Britex Fabrics (http://www.britexfabrics.com/) in San Francisco! Natalie, who manages the notions floor at Britex, will be sharing her expertise on lace with us. She has a passion for historical costuming and is an expert on all things lace. Her discussion will include:

• terminology

• styles of lace, what to consider when choosing lace (i.e. weight of lace to fabric)

• how lace is made

• care (prewash or not?)

• various applications of lace (not just bridal and formal wear)

• tea dyeing

Natalie will also compile a handout listing helpful tutorials for working with lace. This meetup will start on the first floor in the back, near the lace fabrics and then will go up to the third floor (notions) and look at lace trim.

After Natalie's talk, we'll convene on the fourth floor. If you've made anything with lace, feel free to bring your finished garments or WIPs (works in progress) to discuss your successes, failures, fears, and questions.

IMPORTANT: Space is limited. There will be 20 chairs but room for 30 maximum. Please read the entire description for details on RSVPs.

We are giving away TWO patterns at this meetup! Sew Chic Pattern Company (http://www.sewchicpatterns.com/), an indie pattern company specializing in modern designs with a vintage flair, is sending its Valentine lingerie sewing pattern (http://www.sewchicpatterns.com/valentine.html), which uses lace:

AND its lovely Beatrice Pocket Dress (http://www.sewchicpatterns.com/beatrice.html), which can be made with lace fabric. This version was made using satin with an overlay of lace:

The other version of the Beatrice dress on Sew Chic's site uses a red plaid. You can check it out here (http://www.sewchicpatterns.com/beatrice.html). I bought this pattern last year because I really liked the neckline and the pocket detail. Thank you designer Laura Nash (http://www.sewchicpatterns.com/about.html) for donating your two beautiful patterns!
