Presentation 1: Using AWS RoboMaker for Rapid Robot App development
Speaker: Camilo Buscaron, Amazon

Abstract: Traditional Robot App development takes several months due to the complexity of developing firmware, drivers, integration and testing. This presentation will show how a fully working prototype can be developed in a few hours using a set of software building blocks and a cloud based simulation model. It will then provide an overview of AWS RoboMaker which is a service that makes it easy for developers to develop, test and deploy robotics applications as well as build intelligent robotics functions using cloud service

Speaker Bio: Cam Buscaron is a principal open source technologist and strategist at AWS, where he works with the robotics developer community and ecosystem to foster cloud innovation and widespread adoption of open source tools. Cam has previously contributed to the design and development of a large-scale hardware-in-the-loop simulation system for self-driving cars and warehouse autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), built on ROS.

Presentation 2: Using UP Squared RoboMaker Developer Kit with Intel RealSense cameras
Speakers: Philip Schmidt and Paul West, Intel

Abstract: Aaeon’s UP Squared RoboMaker Developer Kit allows a developer to quickly get started with robotics projects. Paul will provide an overview of the developer kit which integrates several Intel technologies including Intel® Movidius™ Myriad™ X VPU, Intel® RealSense™ Camera and Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™. Phillip will explain the steps involved in enabling real-time autonomous navigation using Intel RealSense cameras T265 and D435. He will also demo object recognition capabilities using the Myriad™ X VPU.

Speaker Bio:
Phillip Schmidt is a software engineer in the Intel RealSense Group where he has been working on algorithms for SLAM and sensor fusion for robotic applications. He holds a master’s degree in control engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and, before joining Intel, was a research engineer at the German Aerospace Agency (DLR) where he developed algorithms for robot vision, estimation & control

Paul West is the product manager for Intel’s Industrial AI and robotics platforms where he is enabling AI and vision capabilities into robotic arms and mobile robotics. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University. His previous projects at Intel include process development and yield improvement for next-generation silicon processes, as well as IP development for integrated silicon photonic circuit components.
