Port of Oakland imports and exports kind of overlap! Top 10 exports: Fruits/nuts, meats, electronics, wine/spirits, dairy, minerals, medical equipment, cotton!

Top 10 imports: Machinery, electrical equipment, furniture/bedding, wine/spirits, plastics, cars, coffee/tea/spice (mmm,) toys/sports equipment (your bike?,) medical instruments.

    That's all folks!

Port of Oakland: receives no tax money from the city. Supports businesses that provide tax to Oakland and the state. Operates the Oakland Airport. First port on the Pacific Coast. Also, the area where the "mole" was built 1882, the west terminus for the First Transcontinental Railroad. Passengers then took ferries to SF.

Thanks for being such a great group with patience during the unexpected marathon! And for indulging me with my new toy, the mini-megaphone! I'm sorry you missed the Port Park turnoff, but I wanted to go back to escort a couple of cyclists in the rear who needed some direction. Dang! I missed the Saloon-well next time! Glad you all found you way! Port Facts coming!

Thanks for putting this on. I had a blast, and I'll be at your next. :-)

Additional highlights will include: an early stop at the amazing Arizmendi bakery where we can fill up on water and food, and Pixar studios. If you can't use the restroom before the ride, there will be facilities near the bakery and on the bay bridge. See you Sunday!

Hi Cyclists~ First, I was just informed that Sunday is also the day of the Oakland Running Festival. The ONLY portion of our route that will be affected is Lake Merritt, so I'm tagging it on at the END when things quiet down. We may have to finesse our finish. We will meet at the FRANK OGAWA PLAZA 14th and Broadway between the BART elevator and flagpole , and make our way out of the "running zone" a short distance away. I highly recommend you come by BART since parking may be tough and only found on the outskirts of central downtown. Please plan your trip accordingly in order to be on time!

If you are no longer able to attend, please do update your RSVP to "No" as a courtesy. I'll e-mail my # to you, but after we leave, I won't be able to check for texts.

I am adding a plus one to my RSVP as my husband Kirk also wants to ride. Looking forward to it.

The Bay Bridge Path WILL BE OPEN for our ride. One of our savvy cyclists, Dalton, looked at the website:

Hello everyone. This is my first time attending this meet up. I am planning to drive there, but I am not familiar with Oakland and I was wondering where I should park. Appreciate any tips!

    March 20, 2014

    • Franny

Hi Shintaro, parking is free anywhere in Oakland on Sundays, and at that hour it shouldn't be hard to find parking near the BART station starting point.
