Announcing a new Meetup for Bay Area Cycling!

What: ROMP Pumpkin Run 2009!

When: October 24,[masked]:00 AM

Kings Mountain Community Center and Firehouse
13889 Skyline Blvd
Woodside, CA 94062

Hi Gang,

OK here's the scoop. I'm planning on attending a ride that is hosted by the Responsible Off Road Mountain Pedalers (ROMP). They are a very active mountain biking organization on the west side of the bay. Every year they host a "Pumpkin Run" at which they ride from the top of Skyline (Highway 35) down to a pumpkin patch south of Half Moon Bay via Purissima Road and Harkins Fire Trail. The ride will go through Purissima Creek Redwoods Regional Open Space Preserve. Once at the pumpkin patch, they get the biggest pumpkins they can carry, and hoof them back up to Skyline. The one who brings the biggest pumpkin back is King or Queen for a day! After all of this they have a good time BBQing and telling tall tells about the "one that got away".

There will be multiple ride leaders for both advanced and beginner/intermediate rides. The advanced ride is about 25 miles with 2500ft of climbing. From the description the road is mostly dirt fire roads with about 30% of the ride being paved country roads near the Half Moon Bay portion. And even if you don't feel like riding you can join the BBQ. The cost for the BBQ is only $10 and if you want to bring a dessert to share you are welcome to.

Click the link above titled "Pumpkin Run" to view the flier for the event. It contains more information about the event with links to the ROMP website as well as the Purissima Creek Redwoods Regional Open Space Preserve site.

Hope you can make it ... it will be a lot of fun!

See below for Ride Difficulty Rating as well as more details about the event.

Ride Rating:

ROMP uses a Ride Rating system that provides a good concise rating for the Pace, Technical Difficulty, Distance, and Elevation Gain. The ratings for the Pumpkin Rides are listed below. Go to the Ride Rating Guide on the ROMP site for a description of the rating system.
