Mixed Terrain: Lake Chabot | 22 mi. 2200' climb | BART to BART

Start: Lake Merritt BART  Finish: Castro Valley BART

Meet: 9:30 AM  Depart: 9:45 AM sharp

Description: This is a mixed terrain ride that will take us from Downtown Oakland, up to Skyline in the Oakland Hills via a shady paved road.  This is where most of the climb comes in, the beginning of the ride.  We will then ride a few rollers and enter Anthony Chabot Regional Park and ride fairly easy dirt trails along the western side of the lake.  We will exit through the south end of the lake and ride down a short segment of Redwood Road to catch Castro Valley BART.

This is a solid intermediate ride due to the hills and slightly technical terrain.  We will wait 10 min. at the top of hills, and at forks along the dirt trails for catchup.

You can use any type of bike you're comfortable with, but a light mountain, hybrid or cyclocross is ideal.

Bring: Helmet, tire repair supplies, a LUNCH, snacks and lots of fluids.  Please be self-sufficient with food.  There is one water/restroom break at the equestrian center midway through the ride.

Organizer Fee: 2.00

Random thoughts: High points, giant rollers and the run down Redwood. Low points, throwin chains, I thought the new rear derailuer was dialed in. OH boy moment, seeing Franny chargin up the first set of hills had me thinkin it was gonna be a long ride. Kudos goes to Marisa, you're a trooper I'd ride with you again. Goofy Nonsensical Thought, "boy they really feed these horses well around here don't they???" Personal Best, I went to Dublin and rode another 30 miles to get home, with breaks I basically was on the bike from 10 am till 10 pm, heat was brutal, that's the most time and the most elevation I have yet done :) Thanks Franny and all of you folks are cool.....even Diamond.

Thanks for coming out on the ride today. If I do another one of these, I'm doing it on a MTB instead of a hybrid! Props to the guys who can do that stuff on road bikes with skinny tires! I appreciate the tips about MTB's that I'll take into consideration when buying one.
