  • Mar 17, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

It is getting warmer and as I promised on last meetup, lets have a party at my house in Los Altos Hills on March 17th (Sunday) at 6pm. I would appreciate if couple volunteers can help with management/set up issues.

Thanks everyone for contributing to the great evening! Special thanks to Albert and Diana for opening their house to us, and Igor for bringing food short-notice. Tatiana's piroshki were delicious, and I want to visit her bakery!

Hi partygoers! It seems that Meetup comments appear (or not!) differently when viewing on different platforms. So, the coordination has been a stranger than thought. But fret not! Here is what the "goals" are....

    Drinks:
    48 beers (we have 9 by Sergey)(need 6-7 6-paks more)
20 bottles wine (Vadim 1, Steven 2, Vladimir 2. I'll get the other 16, in assorted colors and styles-- how festive!)
~2 ltr vodka (I'll pick this up, too, when I get the wines)
6 2L soft drinks (Albert has some)

    Need:
    36-40 beer
3-5 gallons juice (orange, cranberry, etc)
    seltzer (Borjomi?)
    ice (2 12-pound bags)
    3 bottles sodas (2L)

Food... (who can take this on?)
Dessert, fruit, appetizers by Angelica and Karolina

and the gorilla in the room:
    20 pound shashlik
(I just called Samovar or Russian Cafe & Deli. Neither are answering the phone right now!)(Taj Imports on El Camino Real in Santa Clara has large spiced lamb "blocks")

Call me on my cell [masked]

    March 17, 2013

I can bring a large bottle of red wine if you still need that category,
or a dessert? So do we pay & bring something to the party, not clear on this.

    March 17, 2013

    • Greg

Rita, we have drinks. Bring dessert, or $15. Thanks :)

I want to get food on the grill quickly, early as possible. The sun sets at 7:15.
I will be at Albert's at 5 to help get things started. If you can come early to prepare for the grill, that will help.

      March 16, 2013

Update! Yes, we need food people.
-- 10 pounds of sausages/ burgers (with buns)
-- 10 pounds of pork loin
    -- 10 pounds of tri-tip
Call me if you're volunteering [masked])
Or if you do not bring food/drinks, please pay $15 so that our heroic volunteers don't lose big money and run away to not help the next party
(BTW, I have ideas how to make next party much easier planning :)

for next party 3-4 designated ppl can just take 1 car to the store(s) and buy everything 1 hour in advance. Everyone else pays :) Much more efficient/less organizing this way...

      March 15, 2013

    • Greg

Sergey, yes! And we can have people pay through meetup when they RSVP. The big issue isnt getting the food; it's spreading the risk of not getting paid.

      March 16, 2013

    March 16, 2013

Albert, Greg: I am done with my procedure. So, can hep coordinating now. I suggest to make it easier and just go with the regular grill of chicken, tri-tip, hamburgers, etc. What should I bring?

    March 14, 2013

    • Albert

Well, i am completely lost on this. Greg, please coordinate all.

      March 14, 2013

  • Greg

    Shashlik idea!!!
Instead of the "log" of shawerma meat, make it like my friends on the Volga do? Boneless pork chops, marinated in seltzer, garlic, and other family secret spices. Cut into large chunks and place on skewers.

    March 13, 2013

  • Albert

So far no one steps in to prepare meet for Shahluk. That means that we will have to skip Shahluk all together and switch to burgers or similar

How can I coordinate the drinks for the event? Do I tell people what to do and bring?

    March 12, 2013

    • A former member
      A former member

ok by default I will bring 9 bottles of beer, bunch of cold cuts from whole foods and that's it. Frankly I think it would be much more efficient for 3-4 ppl to drive to the store once at ~5pm and get everything that doesn't need to be prepared for a long time like meat. Then pool money during/after the gathering.

      March 12, 2013

if you have other instruction please advise.. I would rather buy more expensive smaller items (like wine and meat) than cheaper heavier ones due to not driving.

Gals/Guys, i do not want to have it like amwrican party - with chips and cpeat junly food. I really would like to up a beat and have a higher class party. I hope we have a memorable evening and good food. Would be great if someone step up and take over management issue

    Lol about "American style party".
Thinking... How heavy on the drinks should it be, because it is a Sunday evening party? Will the vodka bottles empty fast?

    March 12, 2013

  • Albert

To All, there are only 5 or so days left and I hope we can have some actions on the subj. Greg volonteer to be a coordinator. Please contact him about food/drinks. I would recommend a base line of $15-20 per person in food/drink value. We are not looking for black caviar and Dom Perignon champagne, but int he same time want to have to better than standard American party. PLEASE get in touch with Greg ASAP
