Backpack Weekend - Jordan River Parkway

This trip will entail a 2 day 18.7 mile trek around the Jordan River Parkway May 3rd - May 5th.

We'll maintain a comfortable pace so we can enjoy the scenery and not get worn out. We'll stop as needed for hydration, sustenance, blister maintenance, etc. We will stay together as a group and work as a team.

  • Friday night lodging is at a nearby campground.
  • Saturday, we'll head over to the trail head early. We'll walk the trail "backwards" to the back country campsite.  Day 1 is appx 10 miles, day 2 is slightly shorter.
  • Sunday, we'll end our hike with a refueling meal in Grayling on our way home.

FEES: $15 per person at sign up. This should be enough to cover site fees. Any extra will go toward our meal on Sunday. Sign up fee is non-refundable, but you can sell your space to another member if you can't go.

NOTE: You must train before hiking with a pack! I and other organizers will be holding hikes regularly throughout the spring. You should plan on partaking in as many as possible. Wear a weighted pack as often as possible. 10 miles with 30-40 lbs is twice as (or more) difficult as 10 miles without.

NOTE: Come prepared and with the right gear & clothing. Make arrangements to share equipment such stoves, pots, first aid kits, water filtration with 3-4 other members of the group. Consider buddying up in a tent.

Carpooling is highly encouraged. I will be heading up mid-day Friday to make certain we get sites, but your time of arrival is up to you and your carpool.

YOU MUST fill out and turn in a medical form and emergency contact sheet when you arrive Friday evening. This is for your own safety, if there is an emergency, we'll be able to get you proper care quicker. You'll find a copy here, Medical Info-Emergency Contact.

Detailed information on the Friday night meeting location will be supplied prior to the trip.

I would like to come but I am in the process of acquiring new equipment... I'm looking to buy Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent and the TETON Sports Fox 5200 Internal Frame Backpack (Blue). Any recommendations against or for these products?
