  • DIVE WITH A PURPOSE.  This is your chance to put your scuba skills to good use and have a great dive at the same time.  South Florida Beach Divers have been asked by the City of Hollywood to help recover some of the debris blown and washed into the ocean from the beach.  From plastic cups to shopping bags and water bottles, this debris litters the ocean floor and poses a risk to reef and marine life health.  There is only one way to retrieve it without dragging a net and causing even more damage: Call a Beach Diver.

We'll gather at Charnow Park by 8am (later arrivals are welcome) and sign in with the City cleanup supervisor.  Be sure to pick up your FREE PARKING PASS at that time. Diver groups will form according to buddy teams and we'll choose reef assignments, as necessary.  The plan will be to enter the surf to predetermined locations and drift with the current, gathering and bagging debris as we go.  Once the bag is full (or your air cylinder is empty), exit the surf and make your way to the Broadwalk.  We'll return our booty to the supervisor so the amount can be recorded for future reference.

This is a true public service for which each diver can be proud.  Anyone can pick up cigarette butts and paper plates from the beach, but it takes training and experience to descend the depths and save a reef.

This dive is available to those with open water diver or equivalent credentials.  Divers should have the following gear in addition to a standard scuba kit: gloves, cutting device - preferably snips, and a mesh bag.  Also, each buddy team should have a dive flag.

PLEASE REGISTER with the City by using the form within our files for that purpose.  You can access it through this link    Simply follow the directions on the form to register.

RENTAL GEAR IS AVAILABLE: Please let us know at least 24 hrs in advance of your need.  We bring the gear to the site and pick up afterward.  If ordering a BCD, please state size.  Air tanks, $10; Nitrox tank, $15; BCD, $15; Regulator set, $15; weights (any amount), $5).
