Intro to C# (C-Sharp)

Intro to C# (C-Sharp)

This course is for complete beginners! We will hold a more advanced class for C# for people who know another programming language—this lesson is for beginners who have never touched code, or more advanced students who will not be bored by the basics. Again, these are basics!

If you have been on the waitlist before, let me know and I'll give you a spot.

The instant you know you can't make it, please update your RSVP. Do not RSVP just to reserve a spot for the 10% chance you'll come, because seats are very limited—don't waste one.

ALL STUDENTS MUST

Download and install Monodevelop http://xamarin.com/download

We will be using Monodevelop because it is cross platform. I will be using version 4.0.1 (the version that comes built-in to Unity)

Every version after that should be completely fine, so feel free to install the latest version.

Alternatively, if you already have the latest Unity3D installed, you should be good to go. In fact, since we also hold Unity3D game programming classes, I would recommend just installing Unity. http://unity3d.com/unity/download

WE WILL BE GOING OVER

Setting up a programming environment.

Basic syntax - primitive types, functions, classes.

Object-oriented programming.

Console output.

And most importantly, next steps on coding something YOU want.

IMPORTANT: SECURITY FORM

Once you RSVP (please do so on a computer) there should be a question with a link to the security form. We need you to fill out the form to give to Microsoft security. If you do not fill it out, your spot will be revoked as you will not be able to get into the building.

If you do not see the question upon RSVP, please message Bryan or me and we'll PM you the link. We can't put it up the form out in public.

Once you fill out the form you're good to go. We'll send out an email a few days before to confirm logistics.

See you there!

Great class. I'm seriously thinking about fully converting over to C# or Java. I'm currently learning ruby but it seems all of the greatness of Ruby is only concentrated into Rails. Rails is a great framework don't get me wrong but I will eventually like to do many different projects depending on whatever the situation is or how I feel that day. I believe C# can do this for me. I played around with Unity this past weekend and was blown away. Today I saw the basics of the program and enjoyed it. It's not as hard as I thought it would be maybe because I've learned Javascript and understand the basics of Ruby. Idk. I'm definitely inspired. Thank you guys!

Hey guys, how are you? Is there anything that we should learn or read to be better prepared for the session? looking forward to the meet up. Thx!!

    August 20, 2014

    • Samuel E.

Don't worry about it-as long as you have a sponge-like brain you're good to go. This is for complete beginners for a reason! It can be your first foray. If you are itching, however, I would recommend playing around with CodeAcademy for an intro to some basic programming logic.

Hi I cannot see the security form and I have e-mailed Bryan but not yet received it. Should I e-mail you Sam? What's your e-mail address?

    August 19, 2014

    • Mayur S.

Hi Adelle, the security form link is not hyperlink on the RSVP page. You have to copy and paste link into browser and form will pop-up for you to fill out. Let me know if you still can not see the security form. Thank you.

  • Bryan

The Security form has been emailed out. We will periodically send out the email for those that have missed it, please be patient. Thanks
