Software Social!

  • Jan 28, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Hi everyone!

Let's meetup for a social night to discuss topics and events we would like to have in 2013.  With Chris joining our group today we now have 100 software craftspeople in our meetup group so I'm sure we can come up with some good ideas!

Cheers,

Mike

Lush is a bar near wudaoku station on line 13.

    Hi Folks!
Thanks for a fun night. As promised, here are my notes from the meeting:

We aim to meet once a month.
Our biggest impediment for presentations and dojos is finding locations.
On months where we have no topic or location we will just meet for a software social.

We will meet on February 28th.
    Topic: To be decided
    Venue: Paul's office

We will meet on March 28th.
Topic: Cleaning Code: Tools and Techniques for Large Legacy
    Venue: To be decided

We will meet on April 25th.
Topic: Lightning Talks: Everyone introduce their favorite tech book or publisher
    Venue: To be decided

We also had a poll to see what each of us could discuss at a meetup.

    Seaborn: VIM
    Ben Wu: Slim/Fitnesse, Taming legacy
Joe: JBoss, Android, GWT, Gaming code, Raytracing, Basic AI
Mike: Raspberry Pi, unix cmd line tools
    Paul: TDD, Maven, Node.js
    Juven: Gradle, Pair programming, cucumber

Good. Mike conducted a brainstroming about what kind of presentations the attendees could provide this year.

Hi! Could I ask for a small summary of the brainstorming?

Had planned to come, but life got in the way... Events I would like to have:
    1. Coding Dojos and code retreats! TDD and improving they way we look at code.
    2. ScrumBeer events. Drink beer and discuss a predefined topic within the realm of agile software development. (Maybe better to create a new meetup group for this though)
    3. Workshops where someone introduces a cool tool, language or platform and then presents a task for everyone to solve in pairs or groups.
    4. More frequent meetups! =) once a month or so would be nice. Can be hard to pull of though...

Is Lush be big enough for all of us? It's a pretty small place. How about La Bambo or Helen's?

It's really good that we have 100 craftsman to play together.
