What we're about

We're a group of over fifty adults in our 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s who meet once a month to play board games and card games, and we're looking for new players. Between a dozen and twenty-five people show up each month so we often have one large table or two or three smaller tables.

This is a diverse group and we make new attendees feel welcome. We know that it's awkward to show up by yourself at a game night and so we encourage people to bring a friend, partner, or spouse. Or a date, though if we play Disturbed Friends you might learn more about your date than you'd ever wanted.

And if you have a game that you'd like to play, please bring it (and be prepared to teach it).

Q. Where is this held?

A. My private residence in Bellingham, WA. I'm on the second floor.

Q. Where do I park?

A. The Lettered Streets is street-parking only. You should consider taking Lyft, carpooling, walking, or riding a bicycle.

Q. What should I bring?

A. You and a friend. Some attendees choose to bring beer, popcorn, cheese balls, fruit platters, sandwiches, cocktails, and soda. No pressure - I've always got a bowl of crisps and a seasonal punch.

Q. Can I bring a game?

A. Yes, and plan on teaching it.

Q. I'm new to gaming and only have played Cards Against Humanity, Pandemic, Settlers of Catan, or Risk.

A. We can help. People who have joined in the last year have learned a lot of games.

Q. Any house rules?

A. Shoes off, please. And I have a couple coat racks downstairs in the front lobby. Let's not be too noisy after ten PM. Please join using your real name - Meetup accounts with fake names will be banned from this group.

Let’s play Mansions of Madness: Hidden Depths

Kayne's house

This is our small format for game night. We'll be playing The Hidden Depths scenario from Mansions of Madness: Horrific Journeys at one table, and my second table will be open for up to five people. Please suggest a game in the comments that you'd like to either play from my collection or to bring (and teach) from your collection. This scenario of Mansions of Madness is 2-3 hours. As this is our small format for game night, I won't be fixing punch. Please consider bringing appetizers or drinks to share. Registration will start one week prior. Please RSVP only if you know that you can attend. Mansions of Madness is a cooperative, app-driven cosmic horror board game for up to five players. You do not need to have played Mansions of Madness before to enjoy this game, as I can teach the basic rules in about five or ten minutes. From the publisher: Hidden Depths takes you to the deck of the RMS Morgana, where you have been hired to investigate strange rumors surrounding the vessel. The ship has been plagued by a series of tragic accidents, and reports of unnatural sea creatures grow evermore frequent. After four days at sea, you are about to step below deck as you have many times before, when you are thrown back by a freak explosion. What on Earth happened? Was this planned? As the crew erupts into chaos around you, how do you know who to trust? With this last scenario, Horrific Journeys introduces a brand-new mechanic in the form of agendas, which represent the hidden allegiances of each player. When playing Hidden Depths with three or more investigators, you each receive an agenda card that you must keep secret from the rest of the team. Taking a twist on the Insane condition already present in Mansions of Madness, these cards foster the seeds of mistrust, potentially turning your teammates against one another and forcing you to become suspicious of the very people you would once trust with your life. You may find that you are unchanged; simply another human, attempting to escape in the lifeboats with as many of your fellow survivors as possible. But you must be wary, for some of those among you are not all they seem: the other agenda you may receive casts you into the role of a Deep One Hybrid. With this shifted loyalty, you do not win the game as normal. Instead, your goal is to sabotage the investigation and keep the secrets of your people from being revealed to the rest of the world. You must get to the lifeboats with the humans and prevent them from reaching the shore, but if there are too many of them, you will be outnumbered and outmatched. Wherever your loyalties lie, you must be careful not to let your paranoia get the best of you as you seek out friends from foes. If you made a rash decision that cost an innocent ally their life, would you ever be able to forgive yourself? To learn how to play Mansions of Madness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2dsq2GsMSs You will like this if: - You enjoy co-op board games - You have played Betrayal at the House on the Hill - You liked Choose Your Own Adventure books - You like reading out short passages of flavor text You will probably not have a good time if: - You like competitive board games - You do not like the thought of having an app on a tablet tell you what happens next - You like short, light games - You like knowing all of the rules and the objectives at the start of a game

Big board game night for March

Kayne's house

• What we'll do We’ll start playing board games at 6:30 PM on Friday, March 29th and go until around midnight or later. Bring your friends, a spouse, your roommate, your cat, or your neighbor so that it won't be too awkward. If you're into awkward, that's OK. Q. What's the difference between this and "small game night"? A. Yes, that's confusing. On small game night we play big, lengthy games. On big game night we play small, short board games. The difference is that there are more people on big board game night. Q. What to bring A. Any games that you'd like to teach, snacks or drinks to share (optional) Q. I'd like to teach a game A. Yes, please. We love learning new games. • Important to know Please cancel your RSVP if you cannot attend. Please consider Lyft, the bus, ride-sharing, walking, bicycling, an electric scooter, a designated driver, or another alternative to driving. Part of this is because parking is limited, and the other part is the seasonal punch. RSVPs open two weeks prior to the event.
