Saturday morning road ride

In honor of the poor souls out there trying to survive 100 miles on a mountain bike, we'll do a 100k (62mi) road ride around Mt. Bachelor.  We'll climb up past bachelor and around elk lake, turning east before the reservoir and slogging back up past edison sno park back to century drive before coasting back down to wanoga.  If my calculations are correct, it will be just under 4000ft of climbing, and I'm guessing about 3.5hrs of ride time.  I'd like the group to average 17-18mph (don't be scared, there are some long, fast, downhill sections to average out the climbing).  The two main climbs are from Wanoga past Bachelor (very beginning, first 20k) and climbing up edison ice cave rd (very end, also about 20k).  Not sure if there are any water refill spots along the way, so make sure to come hydrated and maybe throw an extra bottle in a jersey pocket.  We'll take a brief stop to refuel and take in the scenery, but generally I'd like to keep things moving. This is definitely an intermediate/advanced ride at an intermediate/advanced pace.

When at Wanoga, please be respectful of the High Cascades 100 MTB Race that will be in progress and using Wanoga as an aid station.

As always, please make sure your bike is in good working order and you have all necessary tools to fix a flat tire or mend a chain.  Also,  make sure to dress properly for the weather.

Great job leading as usual Elliot! The route selection, counterclockwise around Bachelor, was beautiful, and lots of fun.

Yo, Elliot is the staging area the little paved turn out near the red pin on the link for maps? otherwise it just appears to be the hwy shoulder!?!

Huh, yeah that pin isn't even close for some reason. If you go to the map and keep following the highway west (left) you will see the Wanoga Sno Park, it takes 20 minutes driving from town.

Melissa, the ride Nick leads will be slower, the ride I lead, will depend on who shows up and how fast they want to go. Either ride will be shorter than the above, some where between 35 and 50 miles depending on the variations the group wants to do.

Sounds like a fun ride, I have been doing the Crows feet commons ride Saturday morning, helping Nick, trying to put together a faster group for some variation of the twin bridges ride. 2 weeks ago it was just Steve and I in the faster group avg. 19.4 for twin bridges. anybody from Bace who would like to ride a variation of twin bridges Saturday would love to see you at Crows feet commons, coffee at 8:30 ride starts at 9:00. So would the crows feet group be a faster or slower group. I'm not super fast that's why I ask :)
