John,

I don’t know how broadly David sent this email out. If you didn’t get it, then you may want to send it out to the group at large.

Subject: Crater Lake open for bikes and pedestrians this weekend

GREETINGS:

Great News: Over the past several weeks Travel Oregon has worked out an arrangement with the National Park Service to have the East Rim Drive at Crater Lake National Park closed to motorized vehicles this coming weekend. A bunch of folks – Cycle Oregon, primarily – have been interested in creating an opportunity like this for several years now, and it’s so great that the Park Service has found a way to make this happen.

Because of the snow melt, this event has come together at the last minute. At the same time, there has never been a better opportunity to demonstrate the level of interest in providing new, interesting, quality opportunities for cycling around Oregon. So we have a significant challenge in getting the word out and making sure we have a solid turnout of cyclists this weekend. In addition to taking your bike or running or walking gear to Crater Lake this weekend, if you could help us out by posting any of the following links to your facebook or other social media (i’m told there’s other social media :-), it would be very helpful – “for the good of the order” as they say.

Also, for the folks in Deschutes County, Senator Wyden’s office and Bend City Councilor Sally Russell are convening a meeting to re-energize Senator Wyden’s Recreation Assets efforts. There is a meeting to get organized on Tuesday night July 9 at 5:00pm at the Bend Parks and Recreation community room. Feel free to contact Wayne Kinney in Senator Wyden’s office or Sally to get involved – if you can’t make the meeting.

THANKS for all of your help with this. It should be a great weekend. Also, if anyone is interested in ride sharing, let’s meet at the Fred Meyer Parking lot at 8 am on Sunday morning for a carpool effort. !
Best,
DB
