Yes We C.A.N., a new network for social, economic, and practical change, is hosting its first gathering of filmmakers, community leaders, speakers, teachers, and others on Thursday, August 19, 2010 in Richmond from 7-10 p.m. to introduce itself to the community and as a fundraiser for its various community projects.

C. A. N. is an acronym for Community Action Network, a new meeting group like MeetUp that creates events and actions in the community to promote social, economic, and practical change for communities around the Bay Area. The film makers from United Media Productions, a newly formed 501(c)(3) company, will be hosting the event along with United Earth Networks, Roots Force Productions, Slade Digital, and Changemakers Productions.

The budding media service group, United Media Productions, has planned a night of special screenings of trailers and music DVD?s to share. Speakers include Producers Stephanie Slade, Sharon Collins, and Gini Graham Scott. Also, Rick Lukens from United Earth Networks will share some of his ideas for upcoming festivals and events to be held this year at the Craneway Pavilion. John ?Ras Kidus? Cornelius will provide special Jamaican style music.

Featured shorts include Expressions of Peace, a new TV interview show, hosted by Stephanie Slade; excerpts from The Redemption of Richmond, City of Pride and Purpose, by Sharon Collins, and the new TV interview show, the Very Next New Thing, featuring inventor Vic Kley introducing a revolutionary new transportation system, the Terraspan, with supersonic speeds in underground tunnels.

The event will be held at United Earth Networks at the Craneway Pavilion, 1414 Harbor Way South, Suite 1010 Richmond, CA 94804. Gated Free Parking. The requested donation is $10 to cover food, wine and other beverages, and the band. Pay at the door.
