What we're about

*** NOTE: During the health crisis, this meetup occurs online every Tuesday. Please check the weekly event listing because there will be a different Zoom link every week. You must RSVP Yes in order to see the link for that week. ***

THERE IS A LEGAL ORDER IN ALAMEDA COUNTY (where we meet) and elsewhere for residents to shelter in place except for essential activities, but some members are meeting online during that time.

After life returns to normal, this will be the description again:

Do you like to play board games, word games, card games, trivia games, and social games? Examples include: Taboo, Outburst, Boggle, Scrabble, Qwirkle, hearts, Wits and Wagers, Balderdash, Anomia - the list goes on and on. We are a gaming group that has been meeting every other week in or around Berkeley since the 1980s. We currently meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 7 to 10 pm at Espresso Roma, on the corner of Ashby and College Avenues, near the Elmwood Theatre. If you can't make it at 7, or can't stay until 10, that's fine, too. Just come when you can and stay as long as you like. We typically play fast paced, social, multi-player games. Two-player games and lengthy, complex strategy games are not really our thing, but if there's a game you want to play, and you have it, bring it with you and suggest it. We're pretty open minded, and we love to meet (and play games with) new people. Parking is challenging but usually free when you find it, and the area is well served by AC Transit and not too far from Rockridge and Ashby BART stations. They serve a full menu of salads, soups, sandwiches, pizzas, coffee/espresso drinks, beer, wine, etc. at reasonable prices, and they don't seem to mind that we occupy their back room for three hours. We have no formal membership or rules, and there's no cost to join or participate. I've been attending fairly regularly since the 1980s.

THERE IS A LEGAL ORDER IN ALAMEDA COUNTY (where we meet) and elsewhere for residents to shelter in place except for essential activities, but some members are meeting online during that time. If you would like to join, please respond and someone will get back to you. After life returns to normal, this will be the description again: Let's play Taboo, Outburst, Quiddler, Boggle, Wise and Otherwise, Wits and Wagers, Balderdash, Anomia, Qwirkle, Codenames, Cluesome, Dahimi, Oh Pshaw, or any other game that more than 4 people can learn in 5 minutes and play in 30. No long strategy games or games that can leave you sitting for 10 minutes with nothing to do but wait for your turn to come around again. Most of us buy dinner at the place where we meet (they are letting us sit there for 3 hours, after all). There is enough time for us to play several different games each week. Please bring writing implements, reading glasses, and anything else you might need. We encourage people who can pay attention, stay off their phones, and follow the rules, but we are not particularly competitive and mainly want to have a good time. Each month, we meet at Espresso Roma on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, and at Mountain Mike's Pizza at Cedar and San Pablo in Berkeley on the 1st, 3rd, and (if there is one) 5th Tuesdays.
