OK... After a day-long heart-to-heart with the AT Thru-Hiker's Companion, I lost all interest and took this hike in a completely different direction. I promise this will be the Final Version.
We will meet in the large parking lot near the beach in Black Moshannon State Park before heading to the trailhead.
The Allegheny Front Trail (AFT) is a 42-mile loop, which circumnavigates Black Moshannon State Park (Just north of State College). This hike covers varied terrain such as high vistas, wetlands, riverbanks, and meadows. There is a section (about 15-miles) that is full of steep climbs, but the rest isn't too bad. Visit PAHikes.com (http://www.pahikes.com/trails/allegheny-front-trail) for a map and elevation profile. A complete trail guide is available HERE (http://www.cramer520.info/BCramer_MASTER_AFT_Guide_0609.pdf). I've hiked this before, and water was plentiful.
I wouldn't recommend this hike for beginners, due to the back-to-back 14(ish) mile days. PLEASE DON'T SIGN UP FOR THIS HIKE UNLESS YOU ARE 100% SURE YOU CAN KEEP UP.
