These are the Creative Writing, and Personal Growth/Self-Exploration groups, classes, workshops and sessions that I run, teach, facilitate and hold.
My intention is to create an interesting environment in which everyone feels safe and inspired to participate.
Meetings are between 30-minutes and 3-hours long; I charge on a sliding scale from $5 to $60, depending on the group/session. If you don’t have cash that you want to spend, or you’d just rather, I’m happy/excited to negotiate a barter or trade.
Writing Prompt Group
Suitable for all levels and creative genres.
Drop-ins welcomed and encouraged - each group is a thing in itself.
I provide a prompt, we write, share, respond; responses are about the writing and not personal.
Personal Writing Group
Suitable for all levels of writer.
I provide prompt, we write, share, respond. The difference between this group and the Writing Prompt Group is that all prompts lead participants to consider their own lives, beliefs, ideas, dreams, pasts, futures, etc. While this is a writing group, the comments can be about the writing, and can also be about the personal, with each writer guiding the depth and direction of discussion around their own piece. As facilitator, I work to ensure that a conversation is not hijacked from the writer by a commenter.
Learn-to-Love-Poetry Class
Suitable for anyone who has very little experience with reading and/or writing poetry.
Especially good for advanced ESL students and those who hate or are afraid of poetry.
Writers should commit to attending group every week. Choices for homework and ways to engage with poetry outside of class will be provided.
Class time will be divided between reading and discussion of published poetry, and writing our own pieces.
The vibe of the group is meant to be fun, in the way that a paint-your-own pottery class is fun.
Intermediate and Advanced Poetry Workshop
Suitable for anyone with previous workshop experience, or invitation by instructor
Writers should commit to attending a group every week with work to submit, and expect to spend time working outside of the group.
Most of our class time will be spent reading, editing, and critiquing our work, with discussions about broader topics based on the interests of participants.
Editing-and-Critiquing Prose Group
Suitable for people who will work on their writing outside of group.
Writers should commit to attending group every week with work to present. Most of class time will be spent reading, editing, and critiquing our work.
Wish-List Group
Suitable for anyone
Through guided writing exercises and discussion, we will explore ideas such as "want" vs. "need", conflicting wants, and wanting things for other people with the goal of creating a first draft of a 100-item WishList, which can include anything from the Mundane, like cleaning out a junk drawer, to the Profound, like trying to have a child.
