What we're about

Polarization is tearing America apart.

Better Angels is a bipartisan citizens' movement working to unify our divided nation. By bringing red and blue Americans together into a working alliance, we’re building new ways to talk to one another, participate together in public life, and positively influence the direction of the nation. We provide safe and civil events facilitated by trained moderators (all volunteers) focused on helping neighbors listen and understand one another, and to become collaborative & proactive problem-solvers.

Better Angels of Utah is for folks in and around Salt Lake City who are concerned about the growing divide and want to do something about it at the local level.

HERE ARE THE EVENTS WE FACILITATE:

Skills Training Workshops: These are 2-hour events that provide knowledge of what it takes to have constructive, non-polarizing conversations between people who disagree politically, and it provides an opportunity to practice those skills so you can engage respectfully with friends, loved ones, and your social network.

Red/Blue Workshops: These full-day events bring left- and right- leaning folks together for a day of structured conversations. Participants walk away with a better understanding of the experiences and beliefs of those on the other side of the political divide. They find commonalities and-- potentially, they build alliances around issues they care most about.

Debates: This is a different kind of debate in which citizens think together, encourage passionate and energetic expression of ideas, listen carefully to one another, explore core values, and find discover areas of agreement.

Alliances: These are local groups of folks who've attended a Better Angels workshop and want to help unify America and promote better public policy. Alliances have red/blue co-chairs and prioritizing a balance in red / blue membership. They have in-depth discussions about public policy issues and socialize through potlucks and movie nights, etc.
