Explore the mighty Ottawa River and get your fitness fix. This Big Canoe Adventure will include points of interest that include Indigenous sites, Rideau Falls, the Parliament buildings, Prime Minister’s Residence, grand ambassadors' mansions, a shipwreck, and amazing wildlife sightings.

These longer Voyageur day paddles are suitable for new and experienced paddlers of moderate to advanced fitness! "Voyageur paddles" use either the big 6 person canoes or the 26 foot 12 person canoes and last 3.5-4 hours in length! This is how people in the old days explored Canada and established this country as one big canoe route from coast to coast to coast.

Reservation required: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/big-canoe-adventure-excursions-voyageur-paddle-tickets-61835962027

Pack a lunch and a towel to sit on because the paddle will stop mid-way for a break. Our paddle will expose participants to the maximum number of sights and long enough to reach the Parliament Buildings! You will always remember this adventurous outing as one of the best active social outings you ever did in Ottawa!

Participants are encouraged to bring snacks and water as well as appropriate sun protection (hat/sun screen/ sunglasses).

*NOTE: The minimum age for this program is 16 unaccompanied or 11 accompanied by an adult. All Participants will be required to read and sign a waiver and release of liablity before participating.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking Available off of Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway with additional parking at the Tennis Pavilion off of Rue Tennis.

What can I bring into the event?

- Temperature appropriate clothing, including rain gear if any risk of rain.
- Water bottle for on the river
- Appropriate footwear (shoes without a heel) that can get wet

- Swim suit (if it's hot, we may swim on an island beach)
- Your own paddle and lifejacket (otherwise, we have enough for all)

Rain possibility? If rain possible, it's often just a passing system. By the time you get to the dock, the system has moved on, so please come anyway. The best paddling is always after a rain, when animals come out and colours pop.
