• Applications of Deep Learning in AgTech; Solving World hunger one byte at a time

Sydney's leading meetup for Big Data, Analytics, AI and machine learning! Due to availability of venues (and also speakers) we now have the privilege of hearing from Dr Maryam Montazerolghaem (PhD) who is a Data Scientist at REA group and a casual academic at the University of Sydney School of Business. (Date has changed to Wednesday 18th and venue will be announced shortly) Dr Montazerolghaem has a background in implementing advanced statistical and machine learning tools and algorithms to support researchers, and in engaging the research community with data analysis services. Her PhD focused on the development of a spatiotemporal climate forecasting model for Australia based on local rainfall data and for agricultural management, using a range of statistical programs such as MATLAB, R and ArcGIS. Speaker 2 will be Mark Burnard, a well-known keynote speaker who will be sharing a preview of his closing keynote for the Big Data Asia conference next month in Singapore, titled "Solving world hunger, one byte at a time". This is an inspirational message solidly grounded in reality, and provides a unique angle on the work we do every day as data professionals. Please note, this meetup is still open for sponsorship which will provide the sponsor an opportunity to present to[masked] highly influential experts and aspirants in all things data and analytics. Please contact us via meetup messages if you are interested or if someone you know should be! We look forward to seeing you again in September!

  • The Future of Analytics: what will Analytics look like when it's done right

We are pleased to continue Sydney's leading Big Data Analytics meetup with the first in a series of three presentations from Dr Eugene Dubossarsky on The Future of Analytics. The first of this trilogy will be "Analytics Nirvana - what will Analytics look like when it's done right." Speaker 1: Dr Eugene Dubossarsky Synopsis: The potential of Data Analytics to transform organisations and society has only seen the beginnings of realisation. With the advent of globalisation, automation, AI and other drivers of competition and rapid change, there is an activity that is becoming more critical every day: good decision making. Crucial to good decision making is its main enabler, data analytics. As the sophistication of AI increases, the only human activities left will be those that cannot be automated. Increasingly, good decision making becomes the pre-eminent in-demand skill, with the assistance of powerful computational tools. In fact, it becomes the only white collar role remaining. This role might not even be referred to as a “job”, because it entails doing something very different every day, always looking for new opportunities and risks, and converting their discovery to value. This is a world where data literacy will be as universal as computer literacy is today, and “executives” are defined and rewarded by their ability to decide well, while the ability to “execute” is the more generally available skill or function. This is also a world where organisations are structured, incentivised and managed primarily according to the effective measurement and analysis of the most important metrics. Bio: Dr Eugene Dubossarsky is leader in the analytics field in Australia, with over 20 years’ commercial data science experience. He is a Founding Partner of AlphaZetta, head of the AlphaZetta global training Academy as well as AlphaZetta's Chief Data Scientist. He is also the founder of the Australia–New Zealand Data Analytics Network, with over 17,000 members, and the head of the Data Science Sydney group (6,000+ members), and Big Data Analytics Sydney (6900+ members) . He is regularly invited to be a conference presenter, consultant and advisor, and appears in print and on television to discuss data science and analytics, and advisory board member for listed companies, advising on AI and Data Science. Eugene also applies data science in an entrepreneurial setting, to financial trading and online startups, and is the creator of ggraptR, an interactive visualisation package in R. Second speaker to be announced. We look forward to seeing you in October!
