Instructor Bio:Jared Lander is a statistical consultant based in New York City, the coorganizer of the New York Open Statistical Programming Meetup and an Adjunct Professor of Statistics at Columbia University. With a masters from Columbia University in statistics and a bachelors from Muhlenberg College in mathematics, he has experience in both academic research and industry. His work for both large and small organizations ranges from music and fund raising to finance and humanitarian relief efforts.He specializes in data management, multilevel models, machine learning, generalized linear models, data management and statistical computing. He is the author of an upcoming book for Addison Wesley about R Programming for Non-Statisticians.

    The instructor demonstrated very impressive knowledge, and tried really hard to make the course fit for everyone in the audience. The audience was too diverse to satisfy everyone, but for one like me it was a great introduction to R.

    In general, I enjoyed the course very much!! The content was great , the instructor was nice and very knowledgeable. The last part, on modeling, was one of the main reasons I came to the course, and it was a shame that it was so rushed.

    I would very much like to get recommendations for books for building and running statistical modeling, together with some tips of visualizing with ggplot2 - there are a bunch of books out there and it's a little overwhelming which book to get. It goes without saying that I'll definitely be buying Jared's book when it is published!!
