Ideas that Scale: Introduction to Apache Cassandra
Ben will do a high-level overview of the Cassandra architecture including common access patterns and data modeling techniques. He will cover the details of how companies like Netflix, Ooyala, and eBay leverage Cassandra in a variety of use cases.
DataStax Enterprise: Integrating Cassandra into a Larger World
DataStax created its DataStax Enterprise (DSE) product with Cassandra at its core. Since Cassandra has the ability to scale, it can be leveraged to be the storage core to other systems for large data, such as Hadoop and Solr. The Hadoop component of DSE provides analytic capability and a more robust distributed filesystem. The Solr integration makes it possible to scale Solr and Lucene queries over large amounts of data, with Cassandra as its storage core. Jeremy will give a high-level overview of these integrations and how they can be used.
Jeremy Hanna is a Support Engineer at DataStax, providing support for Cassandra and DSE which includes Hadoop (Pig, Hive, Mahout), and Solr. Prior to joining DataStax, he was a systems architect at The Dachis Group where he helped build semi-realtime analytics for companies wanting to track the return on investment for social media.
Ben Coverston has been at DataStax since November 2010. During his time at DataStax he has worn many hats. Most recently he has become more involved on the DSE team and is looking forward to helping to make it the best platform for low latency big data.
