Data Analytics for Sys Admins, and R and Machine Learning!

This will be a joint meeting with the West Michigan R Users Group (https://www.meetup.com/West-Michigan-R-Users-Group/). At 6 PM, Chief Technology Officer Jake Blough of Service Express Inc. (SEI) (https://www.serviceexpress.com) along with SEI Business-Intelligence Analysts Jim Carson and Chad Botbyl will present “Predictive Modeling of Equipment Deletions: A Service Express Business Case.” Jake, Jim and Chad will begin by briefly explaining SEI's business model, which is based on datacenter hardware-maintenance services, and SEI's journey with business intelligence. They will then describe and demonstrate SEI's use of predictive modeling to solve a particular business problem, namely, anticipating the removal of hardware from maintenance contracts. This should be an instructive look at how data analytics is being applied to improve outcomes in systems maintenance and support. Pizza will be served at 7 PM after the first presentation, courtesy of Service Express Inc. Thanks, SEI! At 7:15 PM, Professor David Zeitler, Ph.D., of Grand Valley State University (https://www.gvsu.edu) will present "An Introduction to Statistical Machine Learning using R." We will look at some introductory machine learning topics through regression, including logistic regression and ROC curves using the R programming language. Topics touched on will include probability, frequentist and bayesian inference, very basic linear algebra, simple and multiple linear regression and logistic regression including some cross validation and ROC curve techniques. The last 5 minutes of the meeting are reserved to solicit your suggestions for future meetings. Looking forward to seeing you there!
