Big China

Thomas C. M.
Santa Fe, NM
Post #: 8
I'm in China for ten days as part of an international study tour. I picked up an English-language paper in the hotel lobby this morning and one of the stories at the top of the paper was about data warehousing. The story Data needs lure foreign firms is about Western companies and contractors being brought into China to help with Big Data projects.

I would have Tweeted this but Twitter (and Facebook) are banned in China. They have their own versions of each, and I'm guessing they're behind the rest of the world in analyzing and making use of their social media data. Their numbers are impressive - the Chinese state mobile phone operator has over 600 million subscribed lines. Amazing!
