A great opportunity to visit Tumut my favourite country town in Autumn when the colours are at their best. Their Autumn leaves Festival will be in full swing, the weather will be cool, a great time for riding and to relax afterwards around a fire on the bank of the TUMUT river.
Tumut sits in a valley surrounded by mountains; the scenery is magic and so is the riding which is mostly flat.
Tumut is about 418kms away just off the Hume Highway, which is a dual carriageway all the way from Sydney, very easy driving. Could get there in 5 hours. Hey but why rush take all day and have time to check out a few other country towns, Berrima, Goulburn, Gunning, Yass and visit “The Dog on the Tucker Box at Gundagai” The Autumn colours should be in full swing at all these stops, plenty of good coffee too.
My suggestion is to drive down Thursday on Anzac Day do our rides Friday and Saturday then drive back on Sunday.
Could be tricky it is on Anzac Day weekend, and school holidays are on; I have checked and there is a variety of accommodations available now but that will change closer to the time. If you are interested you should lock in now, there are motels, hotels, log cabins, B & B’s I have locked a few cabins at the Caravan Park which will be allocated on a first come basis. Plenty of camping available at the Caravan Park. I have a comprehensive list which I can pass on, but the onus is on you to make your own booking. Might be a good idea to ring me first before making a booking I may be able to point you in the right direction.
There is something for everyone 20kms 40kms 60kms and a 100km Ride for the roadies, this one will “Test Ya” one of the hillier rides will take you up to Blowering Dam where there are magic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
What to do
Check out the Autumn Leaves Festival Parade on Saturday, take an early morning walk along the Tumut River with camera in hand, or walk up to the coffee shop for an early one. Plenty of places to eat, we will be organising a Pizza night at the local Brewery where they make a mean one. We have secured three camping spots on the river, it will be cool, so the fires will be raging. Walk up to Woollies buy your steak, a bottle of red and sit around a fire and take in the evening.
This could be a yearly event for Bike Leichhardt so happy for you to bring your family, partners and let’s make it happen. Happy to field any questions about the event.
