Saturday – 85kms - Challenger
This is a classic ride that begins with a train to Wyong. The route traverses through the picturesque Yarramalong valley before ascending up the infamous Bumble Hill to Mangrove Mountain. Please be aware this is a difficult and in places steep climb. Mangrove Mountain is where we typically have lunch. There is a local shop selling hot food and sandwiches. After lunch, is the well-earned descent down to the Hawkesbury valley. From there the ride follows the spectacular Hawkesbury River. Coffee is on offer at Spencer, 25km before our overnight stay at Wisemans Ferry. This day is all on sealed roads. Dinner will be in the Pub bistro.
Sunday – 55kms – Moderate
Breakfast: Bring your own or purchase at the local café/general store.
Day two is an easier day, my favourite and the most scenic. The quiet route continues to trace alongside the Hawkesbury River as we make our way via Lower Portland. We generally stop at the small riverside caravan park at Leets Vale to regroup. We continue on and climb out of the Hawkesbury valley before joining the Sackville road. We head downwards and cross the river via vehicular ferry at Sackville (40km mark). A very short distance from the ferry is the Tractor 828 café where refreshments can be undertaken. From there we continue straight ahead passing through Wilberforce before finishing up at Windsor where we alight a train homeward bound. The roads today are sealed with a small section (1 km or less) of well compacted dirt.
Train from Central 6.48am or Strathfield 7.01am on Saturday arriving at Wyong 8.35am
Trains back on Sunday from Windsor run every half hour
Timetable and null trackwork to be confirmed
