Please join us on a spectacular adventure cycling to Beach Head & Eastbourne, along many lovely country lanes and through may quaint beautiful English villages. We will also cycle along part of the Cuckoo trail. This is a 14 mile surfaced path through the Sussex countryside is mostly traffic free and is a safe route for walkers and cyclists of all ages. The picturesque trail follows the former ‘Cuckoo Line’ railway track and stretches from Heathfield to Eastbourne Park. It passes through Horam, Hailsham and Polegate.

This event is for Road bikes & CycloCross bikes only, please do not put your name down unless you own one of these bikes, if you have a hybrid, please email me on chimasuki@hotmail.com to see if your bike is suitable.

The total mileage including the lunch stop will be approx 62 miles. This is a quite a hilly route. Total climbing will be close to 4600 ft, with 4 cat5 climbs.

Please note bicycles are allowed on the district, hammersmith & city, circle, overground and the above ground sections of all the other lines at the weekends.

We welcome cyclists who are new to road cycling. You will be looked after and not left to fend for yourself. For those cyclists who do not wish to do the whole route there will be a few train stations along the route, so if you wish to join us for part of the ride and then take the train back en route you are welcome to.

The meetup fee includes your return train ticket, meetup and paypal charges. If this event is cancelled then full refunds will be given.

This will be the plan for the day:

1) Meet by Cafe Nero inside Charing Cross Station.

2) Take train to Frant (60mins)

3) Cycle through beautiful villages and along cuckoo trail to Beachy Head then Eastbourne.

4) Lunch at approx 1.30pm on the seafront.

5) Cycle back via the same route.

6) Take 6.30pm train arriving back at 7.30pm

Our average cycling speed including stopping at lights and waiting for group members will be approx 12mph. Our average moving speed will be approx 14mph, which translates as approx 16-20mph on flat roads, depending on the direction of the wind !

In terms of difficulty from (1-10(hardest)), we would categorise this ride as difficulty level 7.

No one will be left behind, however if you are struggling to keep up then we will talk to you about how you are feeling and if necessary advise you to leave the ride and give you directions to the nearest station.

Helmets and a spare inner tube will be compulsory. This meetup will be weather dependent so 12 hours before the event begins if heavy rain is forecast then the event will be cancelled, please check the website the evening before the event begins.
