Join the cooking challenge of making a delicious, nutritious meal using surplus food from our very own fridges and occasionally also from local supermarkets.

How it works: Participants are encouraged to bring along an item/items of food from their homes that they either no longer know what to do with or have discovered them at the back of the fridge or cupboard slowly dying away. If you don't have anything that you can rescue, worry not as you can always bring along missing ingredients from a recipe suggested.

1-2 days before the session, and once we know if we have received any supermarket donations, we will begin to post our ideas for recipes and what each one of us is bringing along to the session. This is the time to shine and be creative!

The idea of Bin Cooking is to a. improve our recipe repertoire b. save those bits of food in our kitchen that are starting to look miserable and c. meet new people while we make and share delicious food!

Ready for the challenge? Bring along your rescued food. Share with us your recipes ideas and let's cook :)

Dietary requirements: At our sessions we only cook vegetarian/vegan food, however if you have any further dietary restrictions such as lactose intolerant or gluten-free please let us know in advance so that we are able to cater for this as much as we can.

Event cost: Note that sessions are volunteer run and all of the ingredients we use are surplus food donations. The £5 charge helps us to cover the hire cost of the kitchen, purchasing of additional ingredients and any other running costs.

Please respect the team's time and effort in putting together the events and change your RSVP to 'not going' if you can no longer make it and give as much notice as possible.

Arrival time: Between 17:45-18:00 so we can all start cooking together at 6. Parking can be a challenge around the Friends Meeting House, due to its central location so perhaps allow extra time for this if you're coming by car.

You can also follow Bin Cooking on Twitter ( and Facebook ( We would love these to become an online space for people to ask questions, continue discussions from sessions and share their recipes for, and tips on, reducing food waste.

Feel free to message us if you have any questions...

We look forward to meeting you! :)
