5 - 6:30 pm
Idea Lab (aka Journal Club)
Facilitated by: Nina DiPrimio
About the Meetup:
This course/discussion club is free for members and $5 for nonmembers, and is geared towards all levels of scientific background. The purpose of this meeting is to help people learn, facilitate collaboration and spark project ideas that can be implemented at BioCurious. The first part of the meeting will focus on the discussion of one current topic in science, including important background information, related research studies and potential future applications. During the second part of the
meeting, participants are encouraged to discuss their current and potential future projects to get feedback from others in the citizen science community.
Topics for each instance of the Idea Lab will be announced closer to each meeting. If you have an idea for a topic/paper you'd like to review, let us know!!!
ANina DiPrimio earned her PhD in Pharmacology from UNC -Chapel Hill, performing gene therapy research. Specifically, she characterized the adeno-associated virus capsid to developenhanced viral vectors for therapeutic gene delivery. After graduate school, she moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to instruct molecular biology and cell and developmental biologylaboratory courses at Carnegie Mellon University. However, research came calling her name again, and Nina relocated to Berkeley to start a synthetic biology postdoc in the laboratory of J. Christopher Anderson. Currently, she is working with a team to develop biosensors for natural and unnatural ligands.
Her enthusiasm for teaching remains, and she is inspired by the citizen science movement and enhancing scientific communication and collaboration in the community. When not holding a pipette,Nina enjoys cooking and messing around on the guitar, as well as playing tennis and fantasizing about opening a winery.
