Yes, it's a great venue for live music. It's also a great place for birders. Red Rocks Park sits in a transition zone where the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains meet so birds from both regions can be found here. More than 200 species have been recorded in the park. Expect to see scrub-jays, magpies, black-capped and mountain chickadees, spotted towhees, Bullock's orioles, and more. We'll also be looking for the nesting pair of peregrine falcons and prairie falcons while there.
Time and location: Meet at 9:30 am at the Trading Post (see map link; http://www.redrocksonline.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=gLp7fZ2TLGw%3d&tabid=74). We'll start birding at the feeders there. Then we'll follow the Trading Post Trail with a stop to search for birds on Ship Rock.
What to bring: Binoculars, water, sunscreen, etc. The trail is exposed so be prepared for sunny conditions.
After spending some time birding, we'll head into Golden to check out brand new Mountain Toad Brewing (http://mountaintoadbrewing.com/) located at 900 Washington Ave.
