Birkbeck, University of London is a Central London university which offers a range of Higher Education courses, all delivered in the evening.

Our aim is to encourage and support students from all walks of life and backgrounds to get to university. We are passionate about raising awareness of lifelong learning and part-time study for working Londoners, which is the mission which we were founded on way back in 1823!

This page is for events run by the Birkbeck Access and Engagement Department. All events are free and aimed at prospective students, from workshops on getting ready to study at university to public lectures.

Free workshop for people who are new to the world of university!

So you want to go to university, but aren't sure where to start? Join the Birkbeck Outreach team for another of our free workshops to help you make your journey to university as straightforward and well-informed as possible. This free and friendly workshop will give you the chance to: - talk about the benefits of going to university - find out about practical solutions and available support to overcome challenges - reflect on your personal motivations for studying your chosen course - learn how to complete the online application form - meet one of our student ambassadors and find out about studying at Birkbeck The workshop is open to those who have a course in mind already or those who are making the first tentative steps. We aim for you to leave with useful and practical information to help you take the next step towards making an application to study. Want to start university but need to know more about the finance side of things?

Money can be a concern for many prospective students but it shouldn’t have to be a barrier; there is lots of help and support available! Student finance can seem complicated, so the Birkbeck Outreach team is here to make the process much more straightforward, with this free, friendly session delivered by Birkbeck’s Student Advice Service. They spend their days helping students to work out their options in relation to fees and finance, and can answer questions and address any concerns you might have. This free and friendly workshop will: - provide an introduction to student loans and financial support available from the government, and how to apply for them - outline Birkbeck’s bursary packages, available for students who are most in need - go through the student loans repayment process, including when repayment commences, interest applied and typical proportions of repayment. The workshop is open to those who are applying for an undergraduate course, and are looking for help and guidance on student finance. Applying to university but need some help with your personal statement?

Faced with a blank screen which you need to fill with a compelling argument about why you should be given a place on a university course, even the most creative of writers can struggle. Never fear, Birkbeck Outreach is here! We're running the first in a series of workshops which are aimed to help with the planning, drafting and feedback stages of the personal statement which is needed to apply to a course at university. This free, friendly and interactive workshop will give you the chance to: - think about your personal motivations and life experience and find out how these are relevant to your personal statement - start drafting your personal statement - learn about how to get feedback on your personal statement from our experienced staff - meet one of our fantastic students and find out more about studying at Birkbeck!
