What we're about

Our Birmingham Shambhala community is diverse – we are of all ages and backgrounds, we live in different neighborhoods, and we all bring meditation into our lives in different ways. Our center serves as a place where we all connect around areas of interest: the arts, social action, environmental issues, Shambhala teachings, living life more sanely and sharing sanity and kindness with others. Our center is also a source of support and encouragement for everyone exploring the richness of meditation practice.

Shambhala Training - The Art of Being Human

Birmingham Shambhala Meditation Center

New meditators are welcome. This program will consist of meditation instruction and practice, talks by the director, discussion groups and individual interviews. This is a two day program: Saturday Mar 2 9am to 6pm and Sunday Mar 3 9am to 12pm Lunch will be provided Saturday, snacks and drinks are also provided. Shambhala Training is a series of 5 contemplative workshops, suited for both beginning and experienced meditators. The simple and profound technique of mindfulness and awareness is the basis of a secular path of meditation, which can benefit people of any spiritual tradition and way of life. Shambhala Training is the study and practice of Shambhala warriorship—the tradition of human bravery and leadership. This path shows how to take the challenges of daily life in our modern society as opportunities for both contemplative practice and social action. Level I: The Art of Being Human Through the practice of meditation, we glimpse unconditional goodness as the ground of our existence. Opening to ourselves with gentleness and appreciation, we begin to see our potential as genuine and compassionate human beings. This program is the first in the Shambhala Training series and is open to all. It is a prerequisite for Level II: Birth of the Warrior, scheduled to begin April 20th. https://birmingham.shambhala.org/monthly-calendar/ Any questions, please feel free to ask!
