An Introduction to Bitcoin

An introduction to Bitcoin

For those who are new to bitcoin, this is a 45-60 minute overview on what makes bitcoin interesting from both an economic and technical perspective. We'll be talking about why bitcoin has value, the problems that bitcoin solves, and discussing some of the common misconceptions. We'll also do a few demo transactions to complete the picture. If you have been asking yourself "What is bitcoin and how does it work?" then this presentation is for you!

Tim Callagy will lead this introduction, and other experienced Dublin Bitcoiners will be on hand to help out beginners

What do you guys think about the bug in the core of bitcoin's code? I know it's too early to say it's going to be death but do u think it's time to look at alt coins? Do you think we should sell our coins for fiat while this last?

I think there will be a clearer picture soon. Things are not broken long term. The method of operation of some services will change, Bitcoin transactions malleability will be ironed out and associated downstream issues will clear up. Best advice is to read and understand the problem, then make a considered choice on any action. There have been many blips and it's likely there will be more, Bitcoin may emerge much stronger

It was asked in the last meetup whether BTC will completely take over from fiat. Although this can be debated until the proverbial cows come home, this quick talk (well worth the watch) gives a good insight on one possiblity - by Balaji Srinivasnan (founder of Coursera)
