  • Crypto Mining Meetup w/ Guest Tom Friend on August 1st

    WeWork Stonewall Station

**AUGUST 1ST** **BRING YOUR RESUME, CODERS!!** Join us for an open discussion with Tom Friend about mining cryptocurrencies, energy usage, public utilities, the national electric grid, and anything else you can dream up. After a few discussions with Tom, he's not easy to stump, so bring your toughest questions. Bring your ideas. And lastly, show him your home kWh consumption, and with a 90% confidence, he'll probably guess what miners you're running and how profitable you are. Tom Friend is a business agility consultant, trainer, and coach with 24 years of experience leading software development teams across telecom, banking, cable, federal, and energy He's a Scrum / Agile / XP master, as I understand it, and a graduate from Air War College with a BS in Aeronautics. Currently, he's leading Duke Energy's Agile Transformation. Tom works with space exploration (CubeSats), he's a military pilot, small unit leader, and squadron commander. Tom's Take: Blockchain is a disruptor that is emerging as the future of commerce. It will impact all industries and revolutionize the way business is conducted in the future. Large companies that do not shift to embrace the emergence will be overtaken by the innovators that do. These companies funded by traditioanl Venture Capital (VC) or through crowd funding hold the promise of radical disruption in the high margin areas in the areas of Finance, Commerce, and Energy. This exploration conversation will look at disruptors entering the energy market, the impact to legacy systems, and also provide an overview of power and cryptomining that fuels the distributed ledger. There are many aspects to consider in the future of blockchain. Energy is a component many times overlooked. Please donate $5 cash (hold your bitcoin!!) if you would like some food and craft beer.
