Take a NIGHT Hike! ...with Black Philadelphia! (MODERATE)

FORD ROAD PLAYGROUND

Take a Hike! ...with Black Philadelphia!

Join the crew for a night hike along the old Trolley Trail. I've never done this hike in the dark but, if you're up for the challenge, so am I! We are going to hike by the light of the moon, but bring a headlamp that comes with a RED LIGHT setting just in case you need it.

Agenda - Take Note!

7:00 p.m. - Meet and Greet at the playground, at a bench near the fence.
There is on-street parking, but there is not a lot of it, so give yourself plenty of time to find something!

7:10 p.m. - WE ARE LEAVING! Not kidding...don't miss us!

8:00 p.m. - End of hike (approximately)

We're going to take a different route to check out this hidden gem of Fairmount Park, the Stone Arch Bridge. This hike is a short one and will last about 30 minutes....unless the group wants to extend it and keep walking.

THIS EVENT IS CONTINGENT UPON THE WEATHER & MAY BE CANCELLED SHOULD THERE BE HEAVY RAIN AND WIND

A Fun Challenge

If you're looking for a fun challenge, this is it! Nature will be all over you by the time we're done.

This is a great event to talk and get to know other members.

WARNING: Our hike is not a flat-terrain walk like the path along Kelly Drive; this is moderate hike. The trails are hilly and will take us into wooded areas, so I wouldn't recommend this for someone with serious joint problems.

Wear sturdy hiking boots/sneakers or regular sneakers with good traction.

I don't want to leave a fallen warrior behind, but I will! I'm just sayin'...

Also suggested is a bottle of water. Bug spray and a hat/scarf are also helpful but not usually necessary. Bring your EpiPen or inhaler too (better safe than sorry). FOR LADIES: BRAID OR TIE YOUR HAIR DOWN...I've had an 8-legged hitchhiker once land on my hair and try to come home with me.

Leave the makeup and cologne at home, because we are going to sweat. This area has a pretty thick canopy, but we should still be able to see with the light of the moon.

Park on the street and pay attention to the parking signs. DO NOT park in the parking lot of the building across the street, as I don't want anyone getting ticketed or towed.

By RSVP'ing, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Black Philadelphia Group Organizers, Co-Organizers, Asst. Organizers, Event Organizers, and/or Host(s) for any injuries, damages, or liabilities incurred before, during, or after event.

Sip & See with Black Philadelphia! An Art Exhibit Tour-Halloween edition

Join Black Philadelphia for a journey through a some contemporary art at HOT•BED. I don't know what it is, but I'm intrigued!

"HOT•BED is pleased to present Hidden Threads, a group exhibition curated by Bryan Hoffman that explores the subconscious memories that inform our identities. As we navigate daily life, sensory stimuli may provoke unrelated recollections or emotions from the past. The work in the show is inspired by these involuntary memories, also known as “mind-pops,” which form the “hidden threads” that weave together our everyday experiences.

Inspired by this idea, artists Katee Boyle, Carlos Alejandro, Alex Griffin, and János Korodi are exhibiting works spanning painting, photography, videography/projection mapping by N.E.thing_productions (Matt Nelson), sculpture, installations, and works on paper. In addition to their individual pieces, Boyle, Alejandro, and Nelson have also contributed new collaborative projects created especially for this exhibition. This is the first exhibition that will utilize the entirety of HOT•BED’s space, including its main gallery and MICRO•GALLERY. Hidden Threads will flow through the gallery, intensifying as it goes, while acting as a subconscious space that visitors are invited to explore. Staff will intentionally provide little direction, as to ensure total autonomy over how deeply visitors would like to dive into the recesses of the space and mind. "
