  • Epicenter Insights| Decentralization: Expectations vs. Reality

Welcome to the first edition of Epicenter Insights, an event series brought to you by the team behind Epicenter, the leading blockchain podcast. ❗️❗️❗️ You'll need an Eventbrite ticket to attend. Get your ticket here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/epicenter-insights-decentralization-expectations-vs-reality-tickets-45471975904 Once upon a time, the development of privacy-centric technology, decentralized technologies and many open source projects was driven primarily by ideological aims. The advent of blockchain, tokenization and ICOs enable the monetization of open source as well as decentralized networks. This has led to a massive influx of resources, but also led to complicated issues around incentives and ethics. Some of the key questions facing us are: How should decentralized networks be monetized? How should monetary benefits be distributed among users, developers, operators and investors? Who will control decentralized protocols? Do democratic values have any role in this? What is the fundamental objective? Is it decentralization? Censorship-resistance? Permissionless innovation? Could regulation actually contribute to achieving fairer outcomes? Is it a bad thing, if blockchain technology increases inequality? Is this inevitable or does it depend on how these protocols are designed? What does a traditional venture capital model have to contribute? Lack of capital has rarely been a constraint for crypto projects in the last two years. Are we moving to a world-after-capital? If so, what are the implications for investors and the industry as a whole? Debate Panel We're looking forward to the discussion moderated by Brian Fabian Crain with our guests: ⭐️Liz Steninger (@liz315) Liz is the CEO and Managing Director of Least Authority, a company and S4 (Simple Secure Storage Service) aimed at empowering individuals to protect their personal data from governments and corporate interests ⭐️Eleftherios Diakomichalis (@lftherios) Ele is the co-founder of oscoin, which aims to build a community owned and operated network for code collaboration and incentivization. ⭐️Florian Glatz (@heckerhut) Florian is a lawyer and researched specializing in blockchain ⭐️Ravi Kurani (@KuraniRavi) Ravi is an investor at Earlybird Capital, focused on blockchain and crypto space ⭐️Brian Fabian Crain (@crainbf) Brian is a co-founder and co-host of blockchain podcast Epicenter. He is also co-founder of Chorus One, a company building validators for Proof-of-Stake networks. ❗️❗️❗️ You'll need an eventbrite ticket to attend. • Meetup: Qtum & Robin8

    TechCode Berlin Innovation Center

*** This is an externally organized meetup. *** Doors open: 6.30pm Start: 7pm Talk 1: Smart Contracts of the Future: Qtum's x86 VM Speaker: Jordan Earls (Qtum, Co-Founder and Lead Developer) Jordan Earls, the co-founder and lead developer of Qtum, gives an in-depth technical dive into Qtum's new x86 VM. The x86 VM will allow developers to write smart contracts in traditional mainstream programming languages, but there are great features even beyond that. This will go in depth with how the x86 VM's design encourages efficient and secure smart contracts, and how it directly improves the workflow of smart contract development, while also giving the Qtum blockchain significant performance and scalability improvements. Talk 2: Robin8 PUT: A token for data transparency in the social space Speaker: Hassan Miah (Robin8, Co-Founder) Robin8 Profile Utility Token (PUT) is a new wave of social media that is being built on blockchain technology. It is built on the Qtum blockchain and gives control of the profile back to the owner and empowers the user with their own data by allowing them to tokenize and monetize their social media presence with blockchain technology. Currently, Robin8 is applying this technology in the advertising space through an influencer search engine that profiles, matches and ranks using big data and AI. The Robin8 platform offers a new advertising channel where people are media. However, this is just one use case because any vertical application can be built on top of the Robin8 platform with PUT as a currency in this virtual ecosystem. The company aims to build the fundamental layer of a large-scale profile-based economy that can also scale into industries beyond advertising.

  • Privacy for Everyone - Conference

Please buy a seperate ticket for the Networking event. Privacy is a fundamental component to human dignity and prosperity so the challenges of supporting privacy in a globally connected era are critical to overcome. There are many organizations across various industries working towards building tools which value privacy as a core concept and by bringing them together, we can understand, adapt and share methods for making privacy more accessible for everyone. Schedule, Speakers, and Venue to be announced shortly. If you have any questions, email [masked]. ## Organizers Least Authority believes that people have a right to privacy and has a mission to make secure technology easy and accessible to everyone. Least Authority builds technical solutions that incorporate these values and helps others technologies to be more secure. They offer the Simple Secure Storage Service (S4), a secure cloud storage product for individuals based on the cryptographically-protected, decentralized file store, Tahoe-LAFS. The Least Authority team also consults about privacy by design in open source projects, including security audits of code. The company was formed in 2011 to create freedom-compatible technologies, spun-off Zcash as a sibling company and moved to Berlin in 2016. The Zcash Company aims to set a new standard for privacy through the use of groundbreaking cryptography. In an open and programmable financial system, privacy is the only way to ensure fungibility and guarantee that cryptocurrency can be interchangeable as a fluid medium of exchange for users. Companies need the protection of privacy along their supply chain in order to conduct their business, especially in the context of public blockchains. In addition, we believe that personal privacy is necessary for core human values like dignity, intimacy, and morality. Dekrypt Capital is a blockchain investment firm with an emphasis on privacy-preserving protocols and early-stage ventures. We mentor and invest in teams developing novel solutions to address the core issues of privacy and scalability in decentralized applications.

  • Meetup #53 | Ocean Protocol, Neufund & Cosmos

    Space Shack

Democratizing Data with Ocean Data Exchange Protocol (Trent McConaghy) Society is becoming increasingly reliant on data, especially with the advent of AI. However, a small handful of organizations with both massive datasets and AI capabilities have become powerful with control that is a danger to a free and open society. Ocean Protocol aims to unlock data, for more equitable outcomes for users of data, using a thoughtful application of both technology and governance. It is a decentralized data exchange protocol that makes data available for everyone with privacy, security, control, transparency and compliance. Cosmos: Many Chains, Many Tokens, One Ecosystem (Brian Fabian Crain) Talk on how Tendermint and Cosmos together create the Internet of Blockchains. Blockchain as a social system - design of the Neufund platform and its tokens (Marcin Rudolf) Blockchain is much more than crypto currencies – those are just one of its applications. It continues what internet did to communication and society. To me blockchain is a mechanism through people can interact: they can make transaction without trusting each other personally. On Ethereum blockchain those interactions happen via smart contracts which define rules, behaviors and incentives of people using them. In this talk I'd like to show how Neufund smart contract system is designed with special focus on our tokens: NEU that incentives investment and Equity Tokens that allows to fund a project without killing it business.
