The purpose of our group is to explore the technical aspects and applications of blockchain technologies to real-world problems. The group will meet physically, twice per month, to develop group member skills through a three (3) phase program: Phase I: The group will work together to cover a short curriculum of primer materials (you must join the group and contact the Proctor for the syllabus and access to the Google Drive where printed materials are posted). This phase is expected to extend over two (2) of the bi-monthly meetings, with some interim time spent through online meetups to review the materials together. Group members will collaborate on tasks accepted during the physical meetings, and will be involved in determining the direction of future phases. Even those joining late will have the opportunity to catch up with the group, as all meetings and minutes will be recorded for posterity. However, this phase of the group will be a “consolidation and cohesion” phase; only members who actively participate and make the effort to keep up with the group’s pace will be invited to the second phase. Phase II: Group members will collaborate on the development of a blockchain-based crypto currency (i.e., we will develop a functional coin); albeit not likely to go to public offering, the exercise will provide invaluable hands-on experience with a working blockchain implementation. Phase III: The group will develop a business model and, if possible, implement a commercial application of a selected (by active members) blockchain-based technology. The ultimate goal will be the formation of a profitable commercial venture owned and operated by the group members. The group will be led by Timothy Bogert and Tom Schoenborne (the group founders). Mr. Bogert is an active cryptocurrency investor, trader and entrepreneur who has successfully operated several businesses, and Mr. Schoenborne is also an active cryptocurrency investor, a professional code developer, and research scientist engaged in energy systems technology development.
