What we're about
BOTMDG is dedicated to fostering the growth and development of Old Time musicians, callers, and dancers in a nurturing and friendly atmosphere. We are a non-profit organization based in Bloomington, Indiana, that is run entirely through the efforts of volunteers — your help is always needed and welcome!
We sponsor a contradance EVERY WEDNESDAY evening (no exceptions!) and several special dances throughout the year. All dances feature live music (Old Time, New England, and Irish dance tunes). Callers lead mostly contradances, with some squares, mixers, and other dances forms as well. This type of dance has a devout and enthusiastic following around the world. BOTMDG is one of the oldest groups of its kind in the country, and has danced every Wednesday since the group started in 1972.

Wednesday Night Dance Details
Vaccines are required. We will need to see your vaccination card, if you haven't already shared it with us.
This is a members-only dance, after your first two visits. Becoming a member is easy - you can do so online at http://bloomingtoncontra.org/become-a-member/, or you can bring $10 to the dance (that's your one-time annual membership fee; please donate weekly for our talent and rent as well). Note: membership for anyone under 16 years old is free!
Beginners' lessons are at 7:10 p.m. and dances begin at 7:30 p.m. The last waltz will conclude by 9:30 p.m. to allow time for cleanup. You are welcome to come early to help set up or stay late to help pack up.
Beginning in September, dances will once again be held at Harmony School.
This dance is run by donation, with a suggested range from $3 to $20. We hope that everyone will give at least something, even if it's very little, because the event is sustained by the community. Donations may be made in person or here.
Contra Line! or pods! or listening and watching! There is plenty of space to participate at your comfort level, and we will remind people at the dance not to assume anything about what someone else might be comfortable with and to ask about and respect others' boundaries. We want to be respectful of individual boundaries and take nothing for granted about people's consent.
