What we're about

https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/e/f/e/600_474588894.jpeg

We love the Great Outdoors and explore it through many different hikes, backpacking tours and skiing events.

Join us on the trails in the mountains, the forests and the woods. Breathe deeply of the fresh air and feel nature's healing powers. With easy banter, camaraderie, some socializing over food and drink all in our world will be ok.

We value fellowship and camaraderie, practice good hiking etiquette by taking breaks as necessary and have one guide in front with a "sweeper" in the back in order to leave no hiker alone. We are very supportive of each other, focus on trail safety and practice Leave No Trace ethics.

Backpacking Big Schloss and Tibbet Knob

Clevengers Corner Park & Ride

Backpacking Training 101 for Newbies at the Wolfgap Campground. You will learn the essentials of packing for an overnighter, how to set up a tent and cook a tasty dinner, tell big stories at the campfire before bedding down in your tent listening to wind whispers and some odd animal cries probably mixed in with a typical Virginia nightly thunderstorm. You will definitely feel connected to nature and earth. Two short hikes are planned: 4 miles to Big Schloss and 3 miles to Tibbet Knob. https://www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/TibbetKnob/ With good weather or bad weather a first night out on the trail will become an unforgettable memory. Dolly Sods Overnight

Food Lion

We'll spend 2 days hiking in Dolly Sods and spend the night in between. It's a 2 hour drive from my house (longer for you). We'll leave Marshall at 8AM and drive directly to the trailhead for a 4.6-9 mile out and back on the Birdknob Trail 511. We'll go to Sirianni's Cafe in Davis to rehydrate and then head to our respective accomodations. Anne and I are staying at the Blackwater Falls State Park Lodge for $109+https://wvstateparks.com/places-to-stay/lodges/blackwater-falls-state-park-lodges/ or you can reserve yourself a campsite in Blackwater State Park for $23 https://wvstateparks.com/places-to-stay/lodges/blackwater-falls-state-park-lodges/ or if you prefer to be closer and have a larger budget you can stay at the Canaan Valley Lodge for $160+https://wvstateparks.com/places-to-stay/lodges/canaan-valley-resort-state-park-lodge/ Consider sharing a room. On the second day we will do a roughly 8 mile loop starting on the Bear Rocks Trail 522/521/523/526/521/522 and head home stopping in Wardensville on the way back to rehydrate. Note: Dolly Sods is a wilderness area and there are no facilities close by so it's a healthy drive to Davis. Like an hour. https://www.hikingupward.com/MNF/ForksRedCreek/ Liability Disclaimer - Blue Mountain Hiking Club Organizers and or Hike Leaders are not professional guides.
