Escape the holiday madness and give a gift to yourself: the chance to write in a peaceful, collegial setting on a Sunday afternoon. Let's bring holiday-related treats to share, too!
Think of this as a creative mini-retreat. It's designed primarily for writers—of all experience levels, working in any genre. Although we've booked the space for 5 hours, you're welcome to arrive and leave whenever you like.
NOTE new lower price: Just $10 for the full day.
WHAT WE'LL DO:
• 12:30: Doors open.
• About 12:45-1 p.m.: Write to easy creative prompts (if there's interest).
• 1:30 p.m.: Begin writing.
Although we'll be in the same large room, we'll be writing in companionable silence, talking only during breaks. If you'd like to have a conversation with someone, you're welcome to step into another room upstairs or head to a nearby coffee shop.
• About 4:30-4:45 p.m.: People will be invited to briefly share from their work, if they wish. (Sharing is optional and time will be limited.) No one will critique anyone's work unless the writer requests feedback.
• 5:30 p.m.: Clean up and depart.
AMENITIES: The Braintree Community Arts Center is a newly converted two-story house about 3.5 miles south of South Shore Plaza on the same road (Route 37). For locals, it's in the Braintree Highlands section, just north of the Holbrook town line. We'll have the house all to ourselves for the day. It's bright, pleasant, and equipped with tables, chairs, restrooms, a fridge, a countertop range, free parking, and Wi-Fi. I will provide a few books for inspiration, and an extension cord and power strip for power.
WHAT TO BRING: Yourself, your writing projects and writing implements (computer or writing notebook and pen, or journal). Bring your own beverage. Feel free to bring a snack to share—but that’s entirely optional.
COST: $10 (cash or check), regardless of how long you stay. This goes toward space-use costs and our Meetup fee.
HOW TO RESERVE A SPOT: RSVP "yes" using Meetup's RSVP function. The RSVP list is our official headcount for the day, so it's the only way to sign up—emailing the organizer or posting messages on the site won't hold a spot.
CANCELLATIONS: If we need to cancel due to weather or any other reason, we'll post a message on the Web site and e-mail all "yes" RSVPs as far in advance as possible.
REMINDER ABOUT ABOUT RSVPs: Your RSVP is a reservation, and we're trusting that you'll honor it. If you can't make it, please change your RSVP from "yes" to "no" at least 24 hours in advance. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, or if you RSVP "yes" and then don't show up, you may be asked to pay the fee anyway.
Looking forward to seeing you!
