• 4th of July BBQ

    Linthicum Heights

    $10.00

I don't know about you, but I think getting in and out of Fireworks displays around here is a total pain, especially on the 4th. So let's celebrate at my place this year! We'll grill, play outdoor games (I'm checking into slip and slides!) and just totally throw down for the day. At the end of the night, we'll put on our own fireworks show. Your $10 donation covers all the food and beverages. No need to bring anything unless you have special dietary or beverage needs. You will receive the address once you RSVP and pay for donation via Venmo, PayPal or Cashapp. Please note: As this is an event at a private residence, organizer always maintains the right to manage the guest list for the benefit of all members as needed and solely at the organizer's discretion. Please be understanding.

Date: April 14th, 2019 Time: 2:00 PM Place: 144 High St. Harpers Ferry, WV 25425 Subject: The Value of Failure with Seven Gateways to Success The story of success is ultimately about the power of failure. This fact is no better demonstrated than in the remarkable stories of seven-plus American candy makers, whose failures helped them rise up and to monumental heights. In this presentation, you’ll follow their journeys and delve into the strategies that made them work, from rallying their communities to reshaping their personal or professional brand. Case studies include Mary Spencer, a shipwrecked Englishwomen who opened the nation’s first candy store in 1806, while helping enslaved workers in New England to escape; Pharmacist Oliver Chase, maker of the NECCO Wafer, who invented a pill-cutting machine, changing the course of food and medicine; and Charles Hires, who tapped the powers of communications in the early 1900s, to navigate political, social, and technological obstacles. Also included are Hershey, Mars, and other familiar greats whose stories are even more intriguing than the products that they made. You will sample their candies as we go. Susan Benjamin She is also founder of True Treats Historic Candy, based in Harpers Ferry, WV, the nation’s only research-based candy company, listed by Food Network Magazine, delish.com and Holiday Lettings, Trip Advisor’s international arm, as one of the nation’s top 50 “Sweet Spots.” Her tenth book, “Sweet as Sin: The Unwrapped Story of How Candy Became America’s Favorite Pleasure” (Prometheus, 2016) made the Smithsonian’s “Best of Books about Food for 2016.” Link to purchase ticket: Must use coupon code TALK10 to override shipping cost. http://www.truetreatscandy.com/product/talk-and-tasting/
