Board & Card Games Marathon @ West LA -- December 8: MANY PRIZES!!!

  • Dec 8, 2012 · 12:00 PM
  • St. Bede's Church

'tis the season of giving, and this month we're giving out CRAZY MANY prizes. Skip down to the ****s for the details.

We're closing out the year with another HUGE day of board games and card games.... and everyone is welcome! This is an all-day event, so feel free to come for a quick game or two, or stay for the long haul.

If the only games you know are Monopoly, Scrabble, and Trivial Pursuit, you're in for a treat! Come check out some of the best games you've never heard of: build ancient empires, escape from a pirate fortress, spell words to steal letters, collect chameleons, race robots, battle zombies, connect railroads, and more! We'll have TONS of board games & card games to choose from (well, it feels like tons when we're loading the car!). You're also welcome to bring your own games to share.

We'll have game captains on hand to lead games, introduce members, and explain rules, so don't worry if you haven't heard any of these games. Part of the fun is learning! Board games are a great "thinking person's relaxation" and offer much funny and odd fodder for conversation.

This event is great for newcomers and veterans alike. Meet some new friends, bring a friend or three if you like, and get ready to have some fun! IT'S OKAY TO "JUST SHOW UP"!

The event starts at noon and goes til 9 PM. There will be a prize drawing at 5 PM and we'll round out the evening with a large game of Werewolf (20 or 30 people all working together to find out who the three or four werewolves are, before everyone gets eaten!).

$10 adults, $5 for kids 12 and under.

There are plenty of places to grab food nearby. People tend to get dinner between 5 and 6 (after the prizes and before Werewolf). We'll have some snacks for sale.

In addition to our normal monthly 5pm giveaway of four brand new sealed games (winners determined randomly), this month we have a fantastic perk courtesy of David L. Hoyt, crossword puzzle creator, game designer, and "the most syndicated puzzle maker in America" (from Wikipedia). David will be attending our January 5th games day to talk about game publishing & design, sign copies of his games, and take any challengers brave enough to face him in his own game of WORD WINDER, his new clever spelling/strategy game.

To give our members time to practice the game, David is supplying our group with 20 copies of the WORD WINDER board game and 40 copies of the WORD WINDER puzzle book. That's sixty gifts to hand out! If we have 60 or fewer attendees, everyone gets a prize!!! If we have more than 60 of you, either the first 60 people get a bonus prize, or we'll do something randomly. Whatever the scenario, PRIZES WILL BE GIVEN OUT AT/BY 5PM--so please try to show up before 5:00.

Free games! More prizes! Friendly people! Werewolves and paranoia! Hope you can join us, and happy gaming!

The hosts were the BEST! My new love is Word Winder and had a terrific time meeting new people. While Werewolf was not friendly to newcomers, the Jerry-Springer-drama of it all was something to laugh about!

This was our first board game meetup and we had a great time. Everyone was very friendly and inviting, and we got to learn some new games. Win Win!
