Euro Games ? What are they ?

You've probably already noticed that many (but not all) of the events here refer to "Euro Games".

For the uninitiated it's important to note that "Euro games" does not refer to just any kind of game, but modern strategy games.

For game connoisseurs, games can be divided up in many ways, including "euro games", "war games", "ameritrash", "role playing", "party games", "social games". To be honest, most games known by the general public fall into categories like party or social games.

There's some debate, but generally Euro Games will have low amounts of player interaction, and little randomness, intended to give players' brains a real workout as they race to get higher scores than each other.

Eurogames emphasise strategy, play down luck and lean towards economic rather than military themes. They range from the fairly straightforward—like Carcassonne or Pandemic—to the more complex—such as Brass or Agricola. We enjoy the classics like El Grande and The Settlers of Catan, as well as some of the hottest new games on the market.

Generally such games will take upwards of an hour to play.

Euro Games are very popular and are the focus of most of the games clubs.
However if they aren't your thing, try our "Cafe Games" events which in which lots of lighter "party games" are played.
