Agenda: We will meet at the Albertson's parking lot on Federal Way. Make sure you have good tires and chains to be safe on the roads going to Banner Ridge. If you decide to carpool, please offer some gas money. Takes about 1.5 hours or less to get to Banner Ridge depending on the roads. In snowshoes, we will hike up to the ridge and eventually do a loop that takes us back to the Banner Ridge parking lot.

Don't Forget to Bring: Lunch, snacks, plenty of water. Bring snowshoes, layers of clothes, boots, snowshoe poles, gloves, etc. Dress for the weather. There is a 60% chance of snow in the afternoon.

Park N' Ski permits are required and available through Idaho Parks and Recreation. You can get a 3 day pass online.

Distance: 4-6 miles
The trail system offers a combination of short 3-5 mile loops, mostly single track, that can be connected for different lengths.

Difficulty: moderate

Family Friendly: Yes, for children 12 and up. Must have experience hiking in snowshoes and be able to keep up with the group.

No dogs please.

Hike Description: From Banner Ridge you will see beautiful views of the South Fork of the Payette River Canyon, Bear Valley, Scott Mountain and the scenic Sawtooth Mountains.

History of the area: The Idaho City Park N’ Ski area is located in the historic Banner Mining District. Placer mining started along the Crooked River in 1863. Pits and tailings are still visible, as are some ditches and wagon roads.
