Who fancies hiking through the vineyards in the Ahr Valley? The “Rotweinwanderweg” (Red Wine Hiking Trail) from Altenahr to Bad Bodendorf is one of the most popular destinations in Germany. It features not only great views of the Ahr Valley, but also plenty of opportunities to taste the local wines – which explains the saying “Wenn Du noch weißt, Du warst an der Ahr, warst Du nicht da!” (“If you still remember you went to the Ahr, you haven’t been there!”).
The plan is to take the train from Bonn Hauptbahnhof to Altenahr at 10.48 and see how far we get. We can a take a train back to Ahrweiler from every village along the way, so we can decide on the spot how tired we are.
In order to have time to buy the train tickets (around 8 Euros one way, people with job tickets should be able to take someone for free, and depending on the number of people joining we might be able to get cheaper group tickets for any group of 5). I suggest we meet in front of Bonn Hauptbahnhof at 10.20 am. Please be on time, because trains go only once an hour and it takes us an hour to get to Ahrweiler. Bring water, sun screen and whatever else you need to survive the trip ☺
