What we're about

Everyone knows that reading is an important habit. And yet, only a fraction of people pick up a book to learn something new. Why?

Our theory is simple: Most people don’t read because once the book is finished, there’s no one to discuss it with. Like tons of other things in life, books are way more fun when you can share the experience with other people.

What do you do after finishing a new movie or show that you love? Naturally, you want to talk to other people who saw it! The same thing goes for books: When you read something amazing, you want to discuss it with other people who have also read the same thing.

Books & Booze is where this exchange happens. Did you love the book, or hate it? Did you agree with the author’s points? How did you feel about that part when the main character died? (Oops, spoilers). When you talk to fellow readers, it can turn a merely thought-provoking book into something much more profound. In almost every situation, someone else has likely noticed something in the book that you may have never even considered before.

Reading doesn't have to be boring and it doesn’t have to be done alone. Every month we collaboratively choose an interesting book to read throughout the month and then get together to discuss the book over food and plenty of booze. Our books span a pretty wide range of topics but typically fall within the realm of personal or professional development. Some of past books have covered topics like Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink, Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, We Need to Talk by Celeste Headlee, and When Breath Becomes Air by Pual Kalanithi.

No matter your reading level, everyone is welcome. We only ask that you engage with the content, don’t take yourself too seriously, and come ready to meet new friends.

Books and Booze Meetup

Book Club Meeting Place

How this group works: If you are new to this group, not a problem. Let me take a second to explain the format. Every month we collectively read one book leading up to our monthly Meetup where we meet to discuss the book over dinner and drinks. Why we do this: We firmly believe that reading books is a crucial habit that all leaders must have in order to broaden and expand their horizons and perspective. We aim to take that to the next level in this group by actually engaging in conversation about the book's topics, and getting additional points of insights from others. It's an incredible way to not only read great books but to truly learn the material. What to expect: Every meeting there is a solid group of 15-20 people who attend our Meetups. We will all mingle and catch up over dinner and drinks for the first half hour, then sit down to discuss the book in a semi-structured format. At the end of our discussion, we will announce next month's book, as well as raffle off a free copy to one member. We try to be respectful of everyone's time so the meeting will end at 8 pm promptly, however, many members stick around to chat and discuss more. Why the Fee? We charge an $18 entrance fee which gets you a meal and plenty of adult beverages (not to mention the conversations which are priceless). We do not make money on this group and attempt to maximize the fees so that you are getting the most bang for your buck! Any Questions? If you have any questions, drop me a line on Meetup, join our Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/273429116427664/ ), or shoot me an email: [masked] . See you all there! Scott
