What we're about

The Books and Booze Folsom book club is for anybody interested in reading books, meeting new people, enjoying a drink, having a good time, and expressing opinions. All books are welcome as are all people. Come join us for an intellectual discussion (or not!) on the book of the month.

Everybody has the ability to plan and schedule their own meetup if they want to. I only plan the monthly meetup as I do not have time to do more than that, so please feel free to schedule your own if you wish!

This page is not to be used for promotional events.

The Lightest Object in the Universe by Kimi Eisele

Heckle Alehouse - by Karens on opposite end of building

And the first book from the voting is set, and it sounds like quite an original. Or a mashup of originals. Either way, it sounds a perfect fit for the club. Oh, keep replying to my email if you have a preference on future books. I like the vague anti-references, such as "no more sci-fi" or "that book was really boring". That helps as well. :-) The list is at the bottom of this email. I didn't like the really long Amazon book description, so I found this quote that seems cool: “It’s Sleepless In Seattle meets Station Eleven . . . the leisurely chapters are full of beauty, the characters are layered and nuanced, and the plot still moves at a faster clip than Charles Frazier’s Cold Mountain, another Odyssean novel about lovers separated by harsh geography. To be fair, there are plenty of horrors in Eisele’s version of the apocalypse . . . But unlike The Road, The Lightest Object is mostly interested in the survivors who are kind to one another. If that sounds naïve, maybe Cormac McCarthy made us all too cynical.” —The A.V.
