  • Fathers and Sons, Ivan Turgenev's 1862 novel of about 250 pages, enraged the old and the young, reactionaries, romantics, and radicals alike when it was first published. At the same time, Turgenev won the acclaim of Flaubert, Maupassant, and Henry James for his craftsmanship as a writer and his psychological insight. Fathers and Sons is now numbered among the world’s greatest novels on many lists.(Description excerpted from Goodreads.)

We'll meet at the Panera Bread in Manchester at the Buckland Hills Pavilions mall, with a copy of the book on the table. This Panera is near JC Penney and one level directly below the carousel food court.

    Which translation do you recommend?

Based on that info, I think I'll look for the George Reavey translation, but it looks like Constance Garnett and Bernard Guilbert Guerney also have good points. I saw good remarks for Katz and Freeborn as well. I don't believe Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky have translated this one yet.
