This is a different kind of support group. Membership is aimed towards baby boomers who have aging parents living with them or near-by who need (or are beginning to need) care-giving assistance. There are many care-giver support groups available to discuss and deal with the stress of being a care-giver. This group's primary goal is different; to provide opportunities for our aging parents to make new social connections.
As people age, they inevitably lose many of their social connections. Yet, numerous studies have shown that elderly adults who retain strong social connections are happier, physically healthier, and tend to retain their cognitive abilities and independence longer than the socially isolated... which ultimately makes caring for them less stressful.
If you suspect that your parent may be suffering from loneliness, if you find that you're often the only human-being they talk to in days, and if you want to do something about this situation, this group is for you.
