- The Sturbridge Lions All American River Race
Turners Field, 42.1152 N, 72.11229 W (the parking lot where you drop your boat off & register)
See http://www.angelfire.com/ma3/sturbridgelions/events.html "Date: Sunday, April 28th, 2019 Time: Registration begins at 9:00AM Place: Turners Field in Sturbridge, Mass. The Sturbridge Lions All American River Race is an annual event enjoyed by canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts and spectators alike. This is a timed race of over six miles, starting one craft each minute. The first craft leaves Turners Field at 11:01AM and heads for the finish line at Westville Dam Recreational Area in Southbridge. With both the Sturbridge and Charlton Emergency Rescue Teams using the race as a training event, and manning the route with spotters from the Radio Club, they make this the safest race possible. Over 100 craft and 180 participants have competed in last year's event and medallions are given to the first three finishers in each class. The Westville Dam Recreational Area features food and entertainment as well as strategic viewing spots to see the craft negotiate the rapids area. We'd like to suggest running as many cars down to Westville after you unload before the race, as Turners has very little parking. Perhaps all the paddle members from all interested meet up groups can meet on the bleachers at turners field after registration (~9am) and sort out rides to shuttle folks and cars to the finish line back to the start -- Also we raffle off a kayak. See a Lion for your raffle tickets. 1 ticket for $5, 3 tickets for $10
